Mia started putting on concerts and Adam was a rockstar on tour but he found out that she was having a concert near where he was so he decided to go to it. Eventually they completely stopped talking without reason. Mia still attended Juilliard and her and Adam still talked everyday until replies started to more vague and went days without talking. She wasn't herself until she played again. In Where She Went it picked up a few years later and Adam filled in about Mia's recovery after the car accident and her surgeries as well as gaining her motor skills back in order to play cello. That's where Where She Went picked up from. After hearing the words from everyone she was close to, she decided to fight to wake up from her coma. While she was in the hospital she got an acceptance letter from Juilliard because her biggest talent is playing the cello. Mia was in a coma for quite some time but Adam was by her side. Her parents died and later her little brother Teddy had surgery but died randomly while still in the hospital. It was a snow day and Mia and her family were in the car when a semi-truck slid on ice and ran into their car. In If I Stay Adam and Mia go to high school together in Portland, Oregon and begin to talk and eventually date each other.
